If Only I Had Known…
It seems to be the phrase we love to hate to use. If I had known this then I wouldn’t have done that! Sound familiar? If you could prepare and plan for certain events, could you eliminate the use of that phrase? What if you could eliminate this phrase from the financial areas of your life? What if you had known, had planned and were prepared? We believe you can when it comes to Income Protection…
What is your most important asset? If the immediate picture that popped into your head is your property or your vehicle, you’re not alone. But if you consider for a moment that both of these are only in your life because of your income, would it not be worth protecting your income with the same intent that you do your vehicle?
Income Protection, initially thought of as a disability benefit, has completely changed the way we plan and protect our futures. In its infancy, income protection was initially created as a disability benefit, whereas now the same concept stems across all the major insurable events that you could fall prone to. Whether you pass away, become disabled or contract a dreaded disease, you can now protect your income in all these events, ensuring that your financial stability and that of your family remains intact.
For the rest of the year, we are going to look more deeply into the benefits of income protection and the lives that this benefit has touched. One of our insurance partners, FMI, has been one of the leading insurance companies in the income protection benefit field and we are partnering with them to bring you some special stories through their #21lives campaign.
FMI recently turned 21 and for their 21st birthday, 21 FMI staff teams set out in their red vintage Kombi, fondly named Gus The Bus, on a journey across the country to capture the stories of 21 inspiring policyholders who they’ve paid claims to over the years.
Ordinary people, with exceptional stories, who despite their curveball in life, have gone on to do extraordinary things because FMI was able to step in and provide them with their income when they needed FMI most.
The first special story is that of Carolyn Hurwitz.
Carolyn is a financial advisor and has been living with multiple sclerosis for more than 20 years. She never knows when her next attack may occur and what part of her body it will affect. She has overcome many attacks from the illness and bravely bounces back each time. Her FMI policy, which she has had since 1997, takes care of her finances when she’s too ill to work.
Carolyn was 31 when she took out her policy and planned to retire at the age of 70. Having the right policy in place will allow her to get a future income of R72 million should she be in a position.
What if you were like Carolyn, would you have the right cover in place?
If only you had known? Now you do…
